Art making in art therapy does not require drawing-, painting-, artistic- skills or expertise, nor experience! In creative art-/ expressive art-/ intermedial- art therapy we believe that everyone is an artist. The emphasis in art therapy lies in the process and the experience of the creative expression and less in the end product. In art therapy we allow ourselves to create freely, without the social pressures to create an art piece that 'looks nice'. Instead, we focus on our senses, on creating art mindfully, on the knowing of being there for yourself, delving into the world of endless creative possibilities, creative exploration, in colour, forms, media, and the experience of oneself in creative expression. It's being kind to yourself and allowing yourself the joy and pleasure of just being, of having fun, of allowing yourself the freedom to explore creative possibilities and expression.
